Adding subtitles to video content is increasingly popular. Studies show that more and more young people are using this form of media. A 2023 Preply report found that Generation Z is overwhelmingly the generation most likely to turn on subtitles (70% of Generation Z respondents said they do, compared to 53% of Millennials and just 35% of Baby Boomers). As for why the "Z" generation likes to include text while watching their shows, according to IndieWire's Wilson Chapman, people in this generation grew up watching videos on social media, where subtitles are algorithmically recommended as the default.

What is Subtitling and how can RPM Studio help you?

Subtitling is the textual representation of spoken language in a video in a way that allows the text to be displayed on the screen. The service may include "spotting," i.e., synchronizing the subtitles with the video. Subtitles can be provided in the source language of the video only, or in one or more other languages, and are provided with timecodes indicating the exact time at which the subtitle is displayed and how long it is visible on the screen. The process includes: The translated text must be time-coded to synchronize with the video or audio. This includes specifying a start and end time for each subtitle or caption so that they appear on the screen at the appropriate time. Using specialized software, the time-coded translation is then formatted into subtitle files that can be played in a video player. This includes adding formats such as font, size, color and placement of subtitles, as well as adjusting the timing and length of each subtitle to ensure they are easy to read and appear at the right time. Once the subtitles are created, they should be checked for accuracy, readability and synchronization with the video or audio content. This includes checking the subtitles for errors or problems and making the necessary corrections to ensure that the subtitles are clear and easy to understand. The final step is to provide the client with subtitled content in the desired format. This can include providing the subtitle files separately or embedding the subtitles directly into the video or audio content. Creating subtitles can be complicated and time-consuming, especially for longer or more complex videos. However, with the right tools and experience, it is possible to create high-quality subtitles that are accurate, clear and effective in conveying the intended message to the target audience. In addition to voiceover recordings, the RPM studio also offers to provide subtitles for video content of all kinds.
